When it comes to non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) in long-term care, many facility administrators find themselves paying an arm and a leg. This was certainly the case for Brian Murphy during his time as the Executive Director of Mountain View Care Center, a skilled nursing facility (SNF) in Tuscon, AZ. We Were Amazed How Quickly He Improved
My facility had been trying for months to accommodate our Huntington’s resident with comfortable seating, however, he would scream out in pain from his pressure sores, was always unhappy, and didn’t show any type of positive communication while in the other chairs. As soon as he was placed in the Broda Elite Positioning Wheelchair, he never made a sound of pain or cried out in anger, and he actually tried to communicate with those around him. We were so pleased this gentleman did not need as much supervision and care as he had in the other chairs he had tried. We were so amazed at how quickly his behavior improved with Broda.
Hope for My Alzheimer’s Patient
We have a woman in our facility with Alzheimer’s Disease who was slumping forward in her chair with her head in her lap. She was very uncomfortable and had become unsociable and extremely grumpy. We placed her in the Broda Pedal chair and were amazed at the immediate change in her disposition. She not only sat upright, but she started pedaling around in the chair. She had such an improvement in her posture and attitude and we were able to reduce her medication dosage.

My mother has osteoporosis and arthritis with muscle weakness and bone and joint discomfort. We hope to see muscle and bone strengthening as she lost her ability to ambulate more than a few steps on her good days these last few months. She is legally blind, seeing only light and dark these last 2 years. She just celebrated her 96th birthday and lived alone until age 93. A Sturdy & Reliable Wheelchair for My Dad
My dad had dementia accompanied by a gradual loss of motor abilities. We cared for him at home, but he couldn’t sit upright and he was scooting and sliding out of his standard wheelchair. The tilt feature and high back helped his posture and the full range of motion (sitting to reclining) greatly helped prevent bed sores. The tilt feature also made it easy to shave him and brush his teeth. Whenever he was out of bed, he was in his Broda chair. It was sturdy, reliable, and worked wonderfully.
I Had Broda on Speed Dial
I was introduced to Broda in 2010 when I worked as a Rehab LPN in Long Term Care. I would request these chairs frequently and had the Broda representative on speed dial. Whenever I had a client needing a wheelchair for comfort, dementia sensory issues (we always chose the pedal rocker wheelchairs). As families witnessed the change that a Broda made, they would purchase one.
Solving the Unsolvable
Our facility had a gentleman with severe contractures in his legs and he had not been out of bed for a very long time. We tried various other seating options with no success. Finally, as a last resort, our Rehab Manager suggested we call Broda. After discussing his needs, we arranged a trial of an Elite Positioning Wheelchair for this resident. For the first time in a very long time, the resident was able to be out of bed, comfortable, and social again. We want to thank Broda for solving an issue that we thought was unsolvable.
